Pigs Castration

Commercial pigs are rarely castrated. However, we do castrate slower-growing traditional breeds to prevent boar taint or pet pigs.

This can be done at any age from a few days old, however, older pigs require considerably more anaesthetic therefore castration is best performed in the first few weeks of life. Castration in pigs must be done surgically.

There are particular considerations in micro breeds such as Kune Kune as they are more likely to herniate.
