Castle Farm Vets is a dedicated team of enthusiastic and dedicated individuals, working in a network of excellent veterinary practices. We are all passionate about farm animals and their well-being, and pride ourselves on being expert but approachable.
Originally established in the 1930s, the modern practice was formed in 1997. Today we offer comprehensive care dedicated to farm animals of all kinds.
From our skilled veterinary surgeons to our friendly, efficient support staff, we are all highly trained and caring. Wherever possible we invest in innovation, in both treatment and medication. Our team stays up-to-date with the very latest developments through their own continuous professional development.
We have a range of expertise and experience – our individual vets have developed many specific areas of interest. That’s why we can be confident we can give you the best possible veterinary support for all of your animals, whatever the type or size of your operation.

Originally from Herefordshire Luke graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 2018. From there Luke moved to Yorkshire to work as a farm vet at Westpoint, York. He joined Castle Farm Vets in November 2019 and enjoys all aspects of farm vetting. Luke leads our new branch at Malton.

Senior Clinical Director
Will particularly enjoys supporting the team to increase the range of services we offer. He has a keen interest in calf rearing and beef production as well as sheep breeding including laparoscopic AI and embryo transfer. Outside of work he enjoys mountain biking, surfing, gardening and looking after his small flock of sheep.
Senior Farm Vet
Martin graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in London in 2006. After three years working in a mixed farm practice on the Welsh borders he married and returned home to Barnard Castle. Martin is a Senior Farm Vet who enjoys all aspects of farm animal care – especially dairy fertility work, semen testing tups and bulls, and advanced breeding services in cattle and sheep.
Veterinary Nurse
Sara comes from a farming background in the Essex/Hertfordshire area, graduated from Cambridge University in 2018 and has been working at Castle Farm Vets ever since. She quickly realised that she preferred caring for farm animals, so has been a purely farm vet ever since. She also enjoys making sure our agricultural show stand wins best at the show.
Receptionist
Jill joined the reception team in 2007. She is focused on organising TB testing, speaking to the relevant authorities. She is often your first contact for organising visits or medication requests.
Veterinary Technician
Kathryn completed her NVQ in Agriculture and has worked in a variety of roles within the sector. She is currently studying her AMTRA to become an SQP and often assists with procedures taking place at the surgery.

Lucy is a Registered Veterinary Nurse who divides her time between working with small animals and farm animals. Currently studying towards gaining her SQP qualification, Lucy enjoys the sheep fertility side of the large animal work as well as the vaccination programmes she runs with our dairy clients.

Norman graduated from the Royal Dick Veterinary School in Edinburgh in 1993. He worked in mixed practice in North Yorkshire after graduation, moving to Weardale in 2018. He now works part-time at Castle Farm Vets on all aspects of farm animal practice.

Erica qualified in 2010 from the University of Liverpool and joined Castle Farm Vets after a year working in the University Farm Animal Practice on the Wirral. Her main interest is working with farmers to improve herd and flock health.
Lorem Ipsum
Laura grew up in the South Downs and graduated from Cambridge in 2018, moving to County Durham to work at Castle Farm Vets since. Experienced in both farm and small animal work, Laura is particularly interested in surgery and sheep work, and helps to run the Flock Health Club.
Senior Farm Vet
Barry’s family farm dairy and beef cattle and sheep in Bowes. After graduating from Bristol University in 2014, he spent four years at Paragon vets in Carlisle, developing his skills in farm practice especially with dairy cows. He joined Castle Farm Vets in 2017. He is senior vet at our Darlington branch, and leads our bovine embryo transfer service.
Vet
Ionel graduated from the University of Veterinary Medicine, Lasi, Romania. Following four years working on all aspects of mixed practice, he joined Castle Farm Vets in June 2018. With a background in farming (he grew up working beside his father on the family farm) his main interests lie with cattle surgery and sheep medicine.
